What the Black race in America needs right now is a cultural revolution. We shouldn’t be limited to the garbage we hear on the radio – full of dumbed-down lyrics, or ghetto club promotions. We should be consuming media that nourishes our spirit, entertains us AND makes us think. I have always loved and promoted spoken word. And – being a poet myself, my Accountability Group and I are getting ready to do a series of events this month to promote conscious Black culture. I will post the videos here so you can see that I dont just blog about the uplift of our community, I make things happen!
Anyway, the first two pieces are by the G that played “Poet” in the first few seasons of Oz on HBO. The third piece is a clip from Love Jones (love that movie), and the last piece is from the Belly Soundtrack. I dont have to write too much about these, because you can hear them for yourself, so enjoy.
